BETTY L. UFKES

Hartford City, IN

Betty L. Ufkes, 79, passed away Wednesday, October 13, 2010 in Ball Memorial Hospital.

Betty was born May 30, 1931 in Narrows, Virginia to James Elbert and Ocia Ola (Lowman) Tipton. She graduated from Fassern School, Hendersonville, NC in 1950. She moved to Indiana after high school and attended Ball State University for 3 ½ years. Her marriage to Wilfred (Will) Ufkes took place in Muncie on December 27, 1953.

She worked in the Zionsville schools as a Dietary supervisor for many years before moving to Hartford City. Then she was employed at Westminster Village as a hostess and evening supervisor for 16 years.

Betty was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Research Club and Craft Ladies at Minnetrista Center and Oakhurst. She was fond of animals.

She was a beloved mother and survived by: her husband, Will; 2 daughters, Beth (Ken) Mc Cormack, Whitestown and Becky (Ken) Lueth, Warrenton, VA; 2 sons, Dan B. (Angie) Ufkes, Clayton, IN and Edward B. (Michaela) Ufkes, Lebanon, IN; 3 grandchildren, Holly (Justin) Grant, Rebekah Ufkes and Kacee Ufkes; 2 great-grandchildren, Morganne and Kaelynn Grant and 3 step-grandsons, Michael Morlan, Bill Rhoades and Dustin Rhoades.

She was preceded in death by her parents, 4 brothers and 3 sisters.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday, October 18 in Waters Funeral Home, 501 W. Washington St., Hartford City with Pastor David Smith officiating. A committal service will be in Lincoln Memorial Gardens, Whitestown, at 2 p.m. Monday.

Friends may call at Waters Funeral Home from 2-4 p.m. Sunday, October 17 and after 9 a.m. Monday.
