LEWIS W. “BILL” TWIBELL

HARTFORD CITY, IN

Lewis W. “Bill” Twibell, 86, passed away Monday, May 2, 2011 in I.U. Health Blackford Community Hospital, after a long illness.

Bill was born February 22, 1925 in Delaware County, the son of Henry and Opal (Reasoner) Twibell. He was a resident of Blackford County most of his life and was a 1943 graduate of Hartford City High School.

An Army veteran of WW II, he had served in the infantry in Germany where he was awarded the Silver Star for bravery in action with the 97th Infantry Division. He had also served in Japan with Occupation Forces.

Bill married Helen Wilson on May 28, 1949 in Hartford City. She survives.

He had worked as a machinist at Warner Gear (Borg Warner) retiring March 1, 1975, after 30 years of employment.

Bill was a member of Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church, and was a member of American Legion Post # 159 and a life member of Amvets Post #23, both in Hartford City. He loved to fish and was an avid bowler. He enjoyed carpenter work and had been engaged in farming.

Surviving are: his wife, Helen; his children, Elaine Saylor (Ovie), Franklin, Lewis Twibell, Jr., (Vicki), Eaton, Carol Tarr, Hartford City; three brothers, Glen Twibell (Mildred), Muncie, Earl Twibell and Don Twibell (Patsy), both of Hartford City; a sister, Joanne Dick, Hartford City; a sister-in-law, Margie Twibell, Hartford City; 10 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, son-in-law, Les Tarr, brothers Max and James, sister-in-law, Shirley Twibell, brother-in-law, Robert Dick, sister and brother-in-law, Josephine and James Lloyd.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 6 in Waters Funeral Home, 501 W. Washington St., Hartford City with Pastor Ron Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in
Union Cemetery, Eaton, with military graveside rites by Delaware County Veterans Organization.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 4- 8 p.m. Thursday, May 5 and after 10 a.m. Friday.

MUNCIE, INDIANA

Calvin E. Waters, 86, passed away Thursday, April 21 at The Woodlands, Muncie.

The son of Walter W. and Frances H. (Hone) Waters, he was born August 28, 1924 in Hartford City. He graduated from Hartford City High School in 1942, attended Ball State University and graduated from Indiana University in 1948. Calvin married Margaret Jane Fletcher in Muncie on May 24, 1946. She preceded him in death on April 21, 2008.

Calvin served in the Army Air Corps during WW II and later worked as an accountant at Ball Corporation, Muncie for 38 years, retiring in 1989.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Muncie, the Indiana Varsity Club, Indiana and Ball State Alumni Associations, the Moose Lodge, Muncie and served as the librarian for the Indiana Recording Club, Indianapolis.

Survivors include 2 daughters, Jill K. (Mark) Smith, Oxford, MI and Patricia (Philip) Greenburg, Jonesboro, 1 son, Michael Waters, Franklin, TN and 2 grandchildren, Emily Beth (Aaron) Wiley and Timothy Eugene Baughman and a great-grandson, Nicholas Fletcher Wiley.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, a brother Kenneth, who died in WW II and a sister, Hope Knoderer.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, April 25 in Waters Funeral Home, 501 W. Washington St., Hartford City with his son, Pastor Michael Waters, officiating. Private burial will follow in Hartford City Cemetery.

Friends may call one hour prior to the service on Monday.
