RHEBA J. ALDRIDGE



HARTFORD CITY, IN

Rheba J. Aldridge, 81, passed away unexpectedly at her residence on Wednesday, May 23, 2012.

She was born July 20, 1930 in Marion, the daughter of Carl T. and Anna F. (Spann) Beard. She married Noble R. Aldridge on March 26, 1955 in Lafayette. His death occurred September 7, 2000.

Rheba graduated from George Washington High School in 1949 and from the General Hospital School of Nursing (now Wishard Hospital), both in Indianapolis. She worked as a registered nurse for 50 years, retiring in 1996 from the V. A. Hospital, Marion.

Rheba was a member of Grace United Methodist Church.

Surviving are: son, Richard Aldridge, Arcadia; daughter, Ellen (David) Robertson, Hartford City; grandchildren, Richard “Alex” Aldridge, Clayton & Quinton Aldridge, Sean & Darci Robertson; sisters, Margaret Le Master, Utah, and Mary Virginia Warren, Florida.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three brothers, Carl, Robert and Richard Beard and a sister, Ruth Kimes.

Funeral service will be at Tuesday, May 29 at Waters Funeral Home,
501 W. Washington St.
with Rev. Lloyd Hall officiating. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory, Muncie.

Friends may call from Monday, May 28 and one hour prior to services Tuesday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the donor’s favorite charity.

C. E. “GENE” MEADOWS



HARTFORD CITY, IN

C. E. “Gene” Meadows, 69, passed away at his residence on May 19, 2012.

He was born December 5, 1942 in Tazewell, Virginia, the son of Woodsy Meadows and Mary (Jones) Crostic.

Gene served during the Vietnam War in the U. S. Air Force. He had resided in Hartford City for 38 years and had been employed as Assistant Superintendent of the Hartford City Wastewater Plant.

Gene had served on the Blackford County Council, Hartford City Board of Works, and was president of the Parkside PTO. He also was the Blackford County Republican Chairman, the regional president of Jaycees and was a member of Moose Lodge and American Legion Post #159.

Survivors include: a daughter, Heather (David) Melton, Eaton; a son, Brad Thurston, Nashville, TN; former wife, Sheila Meadows, Hartford City; and three grandsons, Zachary, Logan and Charles Melton.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 22 in Hartford City Cemetery with Pastor Chris Neel officiating. There will be no calling hours.

The family requests memorials to the Blackford Animal Shelter.

Arrangements are being handled by Waters Funeral Home.

BRET ALLEN GILLAND


HARTFORD CITY, IN

Bret Allen Gilland, 47, died unexpectedly Thursday, May 10, 2012 in Kokomo.

He was born April 3, 1965 in Hartford City, the son of Charles and Evelyn (Arbuckle) Gilland. Bret was a 1984 graduate of Blackford High School and had resided in Hartford City most of his life until moving to Kokomo last July.

He was employed by ECI of Yorktown and was a member of Sons of American Legion Post #159 and Sons of Amvets Post #23, both of Hartford City.

Surviving are his parents, Chuck and Evelyn Gilland, Hartford City; a son, Jeffrey Gilland, Montpelier; a sister, Kimberly (Geoffery) Harlow, Hartford City; a niece, Kacey Harlow, Hartford City; Jeffrey’s mother, Shelly Gilland, Montpelier; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Friends may call at Waters Funeral Home, 501 W. Washington St., Hartford City from 2 – 4 p.m. Sunday, May 13. Private burial will be made in the Hartford City Cemetery.

CRYSTAL A. STUMP, 101


HARTFORD CITY

Crystal A. Stump, 101, died Sunday, April 29, 2012 in I.U. Health Blackford Community Hospital.

The daughter of Omer C. and Angyrene (Motsenbocker) Morris, she was born July 6, 1910 in Eaton. Crystal married Harold B. Stump in Muncie on September 6, 1930 and had resided in Hartford City since her marriage. His death occurred on June 15, 1988.

Crystal worked as a nurse’s aide at Blackford County Hospital for 25 years, retiring January 1, 1985. After her retirement, she worked many years as a lady attendant at Waters Funeral Home.

She was a member of the First Christian Church, O.E.S Purity Chapter #126, Rebekah Lodge # 394 and Blackford Hospital Auxiliary. She also volunteered at Red Cross Blood Drives and worked at the Senior Citizen Center.

Surviving are: a daughter, Sara Jo Thompson, Greenfield; a daughter-in-law, Betty Stump, Hartford City; grandchildren, Brian (Alisa) Thompson, Christina (Bill) Gibson, and Kari (Chad) Highley; great-grandchildren, Alex and Hayley Thompson and Billy and Elizabeth Gibson and several nieces and nephews.

Crystal was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son, Morris Stump, granddaughter, Kimberly Ann Stump, and three brothers, John, Austin and Wayne Morris.

Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Monday, May 7 in Waters Funeral Home, 501 W. Washington St., Hartford City with Pastor Keith Kincaid officiating. Burial will follow in Union Cemetery, Eaton.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 1- 4 p.m. Sunday, May 6 and after 9 a.m. Monday.
