B. KAY TATMAN


Hartford City, Indiana
B. Kay Tatman, 64, passed away October 28, 2013 at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital.

Kay was born to Hugh and Dorothy Ozell (Weaver) McAdams on August 4, 1949 in Lexington, Tennessee. She graduated from Hartford City High School in 1967. On September 11, 1970 she married Bill Tatman, Jr.
Kay was a homemaker and had worked for 8 years at Val’s Department Store and for 5 years at RCA in Marion. She loved going to rummage sales, painting, crafting, collecting Raggedy Anns and spoiling her grandbabies.

Those missing her dearly are: two daughters, Wendy Stiles and Stephanie (Rob) Hess, all of Hartford City; three grandchildren, Savannah and Tyler Stiles and Brady Hess; one brother, Larry McAdams, Hartford City; one sister, Linda (Wayne) Smith, Florida; and several nieces and nephews..
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday, November 1 in Waters Funeral Home, 501 W. Washington St., Hartford City with Pastor Steve DeLisle officiating. Burial will follow in Hartford City Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home from noon – 2:00 p.m. Friday.

NANCY L. GOULD

HARTFORD CITY, IN

Nancy L. Gould, 81, passed away Wednesday, October 16, 2013, in IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital.
She was born November 13, 1931 in Hartford City, the daughter of Martin (Mike) and Marguerite (Bostine) Carell. A life resident of Hartford City, she graduated from Hartford City High School in 1950. Nancy was first married to Harold Gilland. She later married Bruce Gould on August 7, 1965. His death occurred on February 28, 2004.

Nancy worked at Blackford County Hospital as a nursing assistant, retiring January 15, 1996.
She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church.

Survivors include her son, Michael (Janet) Gilland, Hartford City; two grandchildren,  Jason (Erika) Short and Stacey (Steve) Lambert; six great-grandchildren, Griffin Short, Olivia Short, Jessica (Jaycee) Heeter, Grant Lambert, Molly Lambert and Isabella Short; and a niece, Barbara Houseman.
She was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, two brothers, Frank and Larry Carell, and four sisters, Ermine Wilkins, Francine Bates, Elsie Shultz, and Thelma Carell.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 18 in Gardens of Memory with Father Dave Newton officiating.
There will be no calling hours.

Memorials may be made in the form of masses or to the donor’s favorite charity.
Arrangements are being handled by Waters Funeral Home.

CONNIE G. STUMP

HARTFORD CITY, IN

Connie G. Stump, 66, passed away Tuesday, October 15, 2013 in Miller’s Merry Manor.
She was born June 2, 1947 in Hartford City to Wayne W. and Betty (Denton) Sills. She graduated from Fort Wayne North Side High School in 1965 and later from International Business College, Fort Wayne.

On October 19, 1969 Connie married Michael Stump in Fort Wayne. She worked as secretary at Naperville High School, Naperville, Illinois for several years. They moved back to Hartford City in 2005.
She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, the church choir, Blackford Community Choir, Women of Worth, Delta Theta Tau Sorority and had been a Girl Scout leader.
Survivors include her husband, Michael; her mother, Betty Sills, Hartford City; three sons, James (Monica) Stump, Marysville, OH, Scott (Kelly) Stump, Oak Park, IL, and Matthew Stump, Monticello, IL; one daughter, Michelle Stump, Indianapolis; two grandchildren, Jason Stump and Kyrie Stump.
She was preceded in death by her father.
The funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 19, in Grace United Methodist Church, 312 W. Washington St., Hartford City with Rev. Dr. Gary Hall and her son, Rev. Matthew Stump officiating. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory, Muncie.
Friends may call at Waters Funeral Home, 501 W. Washington St., Hartford City, from 3:00-5:00 and 6:00-8:00 p.m. Friday, October 18 and one hour prior to the service Saturday at the church.
The family requests memorials to Grace United Methodist Church Building Fund or Cancer Support of Blackford County.

DR. SEVERINO T. SULIT

HARTFORD CITY

Dr. Severino T. “Benny” Sulit, passed away Wednesday, October 9, 2013 in IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital, Muncie.
He was born April 8, 1928 in Manila, Philippines, the son of Daniel and Maria (Torres) Sulit. He graduated high school in 1946 in Cabanatuan, Neuva Ecita, Philippines, received his Doctor of Medicine in 1954 from University of St. Tomas, Manila, and practiced for the next three years in the Philippines.

In 1957 Dr. Sulit came to the United States and served an internship at Leonard Hospital, Troy, New York. From July 1958 to June 1960, he served his residency at Fairview Park Hospital, Cleveland, Ohio. He served a two year surgical residency at Mt. Sinai Hospital, Miami, Florida from 1960-1962, then he spent one year as House Physician at Deaconess Hospital, Cincinnati, Ohio. His third and fourth year surgical residency was at Good Samaritan Hospital, Cincinnati and the following year he was House Physician at Deaconess Hospital, Cincinnati.
On June 25, 1960, Benny married Karen K. Schmidt in Fairview Park, Ohio. They moved to Hartford City in 1966 and continued his medical practice until his retirement in 2000.

He was a member of AMA, Indiana Medical Association, Blackford-Delaware Medical Association, Blackford County Hospital Medical Staff, Association of Abdominal Surgeons, and was honored by the Indiana State Medical Association for his over 50 years of medical practice. He also was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Emil Schweier Council 1632, the Bishop Arnold Assembly Knights of Columbus Fourth Degree, Hartford City Rotary Club and the International Fellowship of Flying Rotarians. Benny served on the Blackford County Board of Health and the board of Hearts with Integrity.
Later in his life, Benny focused his passion for helping others by leading 13 medical missions to help the people of Haiti. Benny also loved gardening, especially his roses, oil painting, stained glass and singing at nursing homes and community choir.

Surviving are: his wife, Karen; three daughters, Debra (David) Reinicke, Arvada, CO, Cheryl (Jeff) Liechty, Berne, IN, and Carole (Warren) Bennett, Lakewood, CO; two sons, Daniel (May) Sulit, Chatham, NJ and Michael (Tami) Sulit, Indianapolis; a brother, Benjamin Sulit; a sister, Corazon Belisario; and 14 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Sergio and Daniel, and two sisters, Marieta Toledo and Marcia Policino.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father Keith Hosey at 10:00 a.m. Monday, October 14 in St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 209 S. Spring St., Hartford City. Burial will follow at Gardens of Memory, Muncie.

Visitation will be Sunday, October 13 from 1:00 – 5:00 p.m. in Waters Funeral Home, 501 W. Washington St., Hartford City.

The Christian Wake Service will be Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
Memorials may be made to St. John’s Church, Blackford County Community Foundation, P.O. Box 327, Hartford City, IN 47348, John XXIII Center, 407  W. McDonald St., Hartford City or in the form of masses.

ALETHA A. WELSH

HARTFORD CITY

Aletha A. Welsh, 100, passed away Wednesday, October 9, 2013 in Miller’s Merry Manor.
Aletha was born January 30, 1913 in Geneva, Indiana, the daughter of William and Goldie Long. She grew up in Geneva and graduated from Hartford City High School. She married Walter Welsh and he preceded her in death on March 18, 1963.

She was a former member of the Hartford City Lady Elks and the Women of the Moose.
Survivors include a son, Walter “Pat” (Sheri) Welsh, Hartford City, a daughter, Sue Garrison, Hartford City, five grandchildren, Jeff (Rachel) Garrison, Jay (Joanna) Garrison, Julie (Dennis) DuBois, Michael Welsh and Robin Welsh, and ten great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one son, Robert Welsh, a brother, Bill Long and a sister, Virginia Winder.

The Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, October 11 in Waters Funeral Home, 501 W. Washington St., Hartford City with Pastor Henry Favorite officiating. Burial will follow in Hartford City Cemetery.
