FREDERICK N. STRINE


HARTFORD CITY
Frederick N. Strine, 72, passed away unexpectedly Monday, January 6, 2014 at his residence.

He was born on July 24, 1941 to John and Daisy (Cheney) Strine. Fred graduated from Hartford City High School in 1960 and decided to serve his country in the United States Air Force.
Fred married Joan Wickham on December 20, 1963 in Minot, North Dakota.

He worked as a journeyman Glass Maker at Foster-Forbes Glass Company in Marion, retiring in 1999. Fred belonged to the Glass Bottle Blowers Association, Amvets Post #23, and the American Legion Post #159. He was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church, where he served many years as deacon. He also supported both IU and Purdue Universities.
Fred is survived by his wife of 50 years, Joan, his children, Rick Strine, Decatur, IL, and Shelly (fiancé, Rick Seiver) McCammon, Poneto; three granddaughters, Adrienne (Calvin) McClure, Alison McCammon, and Autumn (fiancé, Jordan Long) McCammon; two brothers, Asa (Marilyn) Strine, Mesa, AZ, and Roger (Mary Kay) Strine, Hartford City; two sisters-in-law, Norma and Phyllis Strine; as well as several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Robert and John Allen Strine, and a sister, Martha Jo “Mike” Whitesell.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 11, 2014 in Zion Lutheran Church, 308 S. Monroe St., Hartford City with Pastor David Fleener officiating. Burial with military rites by the Delaware County Veterans Honor Guard will follow in Gardens of Memory, Muncie.

Friends may call from 2- 4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday, January 10 at Waters Funeral Home, 501 W. Washington St., Hartford City, and from 10:00 a.m. to the start of the service on Saturday, at the church.
Memorials may be made in his name to the Zion Lutheran Church or the American Heart Association, with envelopes available at the funeral home.

BETTY L. SPEIDEL


HARTFORD CITY, IN—

Betty L. Speidel, 90, passed away unexpectedly, Thursday, January 2, 2014 at her home.
One of  eight children born to Joseph Earl and Edna (Harrold) Speidel, she graduated from Roll High School, had worked at Sneath Glass Company, Deluxe Café, all in her younger years. She retired from RCA of Marion after several years of employment and had worked in the Union office there also.

A life resident of the area, she attended  New Community Worship, Hartford City, was active in the Democrat Party and loved all cats and dogs.
Betty is survived by her brother, James Speidel (wife, Earlene) of Hartford City and several beloved nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Bernetta, and five brothers, Earl, Dean, Bobby Joe, Jack and Allan.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 7, 2014 in the Waters Funeral Home, 501 W. Washington St., Hartford City, with Rev. Dr. Gary Hall presiding. Burial will be in the Hartford City Cemetery.

Visitation will be on Monday, January 6th from 5 – 8 p.m. and from 12:00 noon on Tuesday at the funeral home until the service.

EVELYN E. GILLAND


HARTFORD CITY
Evelyn E. Gilland, 77, passed away Monday, December 23, 2013 in Miller’s Merry Manor.

She was born May 19, 1936 in Hartford City to Raymond and Mary E. (Boston) Arbuckle, Sr.
Evelyn graduated from Hartford City High School in 1954 and married Charles E. Gilland on August 28, 1960.

Evelyn worked at Fulton Glass Company, and later retired from Hartford Glass Company.
Surviving are: her daughter, Kimberly (Geoff) Harlow, Hartford City; a granddaughter, Kacey Harlow; a grandson, Jeffrey Gilland; a sister, Ann (Eldon) Willmann, Hartford City; a brother, Albert ‘Butch’ Arbuckle, Warren, and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a son, Bret Gilland, two brothers, Raymond Arbuckle, Jr. and Ronald ‘Pete’ Arbuckle, and a sister, Marjorie McClain.
Visitation for family and friends will be held on Saturday, January 4, 2014 from 1:00 P.M. to 3:00 P.M. at Waters Funeral Home, 501 W. Washington St., Hartford City.
