VIRGIL HESS

Hartford City

Virgil Hess, 83, passed away Sunday, October 26, 2014 at Signature Health Care, Bluffton.
He was born in Hartford City on August 7, 1931, the fifth of six children of Lee and Edith (Landis) Hess.
Virgil had worked in housekeeping at Taylor University for several years.

Virgil was a Lone Ranger fan and collected pencils. He and his brother, Harry, were known for decades around the community for their red wagon and the “route” they traveled collecting pop bottles and, in later years, aluminum cans.
Survivors include several nieces and nephews and several great- nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his siblings, Harry, Robert William, Lee Hess, Jr., Johnny, and Ella Mae Chapman.
Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 29 at Waters Funeral Home, 501 W. Washington St., Hartford City with Pastor Bobby Thomas presiding. Burial will follow in Hartford City Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 28.

Pallbearers are Lee Hess, John Reynolds, Shane Branscum, Kevin Hess, Casey Hess, Clyde Wallace, Rob Hess and Rick Tudor.

EVELYN T. LANGDON

Hartford City

Evelyn T. Daily Langdon, 90, passed away Thursday, October 09, 2014, at her home, in the company of her family.
She was born in White County, Indiana on May 31, 1924, the daughter of Carleton and Geneva (Hess) Noe and resided in Liberty Center, Wells County. Evelyn graduated from Liberty Center High School in 1942, then attended St. Joseph’s and IU School of Nursing. She proudly served her country in the Cadet Nursing Corps, stationed in Fort Wayne, during World War II.

On October 19, 1947 she married Richard M. Daily in Liberty Center, moving to Trenton where they operated the Trenton Store for many years. Richard’s death occurred February 22, 1977.
On August 9, 1980 Evelyn married Walter K. “Ted” Langdon in Hartford City. His death occurred September 13, 1985.

Evelyn devoted 40 years to nursing and caring for the sick. She worked at Caylor-Nickel Clinic in obstetrics and surgery. She retired in 1988 from Community Care Center (now Bridgewater Centre).
She was a longtime and faithful member of Grace United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women and Naomi Circle. She was a member of the Purity Chapter #126, Order of Eastern Star, Hartford City.

She is survived by two daughters, Linda (Max) Bennett, Montpelier, and Susan (Randall) Gorski, Hartford City; one brother, John (Mary) Noe, Mooresville, North Carolina; four grandchildren, Jennifer L. Bennett, Carrie Gorski-Murphy(Paul), Ryan (Kasey) Bennett, and Randall Gorski II.
She was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, and a sister, Henrietta Caylor.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, October 12 at 2:30 P.M. in Grace United Methodist Church, 312 W. Washington St. with Rev. W. Lloyd Hall presiding. Burial will follow in Hartford City Cemetery.
Friends may call on Saturday, October 11   at Waters Funeral Home, 501 W. Washington St. from 2:00 to 4:00 P.M. & 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. and from 1:00 P.M. until service time at the church on Sunday.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.
