SAMUEL L. HINES


Hartford City
Samuel L. Hines, 72, passed away Thursday, June 25, 2015 at Bridgewater Centre.
Mr. Hines was a native of Hartford City, born April 14, 1943, and had lived in Fort Wayne before returning to Hartford City.
Mr. Hines had been employed in hotel/motel maintenance most of his life.
He is survived by two sons, Christopher (wife, Crystal) and James Jeffery Hines, a sister, Linda (husband, Paul) Cox of Hartford City, an uncle, Bob (wife, Diane) Hines of Gaston as well as several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife of over forty years, Shirley A. (Cale) Hines, his mother, Ruby Ellen Fetty, a son, Andrew and two sisters, Anna Hurley and Sharon Dickey.
Visitation for friends and family will be from 10:00-10:45 a.m. Thursday, July 2, 2015 at Waters Funeral Home, 501 W. Washington St., Hartford City. A Graveside Service will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 2 in Hartford City Cemetery with Father Dave Newton officiating.

ROBERT J. OSWALT


Robert J. Oswalt, 88, passed away Monday, June 1, 2015 at Bridgewater Centre, Hartford City.

He was born in Wells County August 3, 1926 to Wilford S. and Margaret (Beal) Oswalt and graduated from Hartford City High School in 1944. He married Mary E. Howard on September 30, 1944 and served in the Army during WW II in the European Theatre. After Mary died in 2002, Bob married Ruth (Wilson) Flatter and she survives.
Mr. Oswalt was the owner of Oswalt Menu Company of Hartford City, retiring in 1991.

Bob was a former member of the First Presbyterian Church, Elks Lodge #625 and the American Legion #156, Montpelier.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth Oswalt, Hartford City, a daughter, Pamela (Michael) Balle, Pickerington, Ohio, two sons, Jon (Ann) Oswalt, Hartford City and Robert (Angie) Oswalt, Jr., Melbourne, Florida, a sister, Virginia Jean Mills, Fort St. Lucie, Florida, six grandchildren, Chris and Michael Balle, Courtney Oswalt, Robert J. Oswalt II and Emily and Elizabeth Oswalt and five great-grandchildren, Erica, Nick, Alexandra, Vincent and Ri.

A Memorial Service will be at 7 p.m. Friday, June 12, 2015 in Waters Funeral Home, 501 W. Washington St., Hartford City with Brian Waters officiating.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 5 - 7 p.m. on Friday, June 12.

Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church.

WALTER N. “SONNY” JACKSON


Hartford City
Walter N. “Sonny” Jackson, 80, passed away Wednesday, June 3, 2015 in Miller’s Merry Manor, Hartford City.

He was born in Montpelier February 17, 1935 to William and Ilah (Sharp) Jackson. Mr. Jackson died when Walt was quite young, so Ilah’s second husband, William Smith, was the only father Walt knew.
Walt was a 1953 graduate of Montpelier High School and played on their basketball and baseball teams.

He married Janice Perry in St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church on November 25, 1954.
Walt worked most of his life at Hartford Concrete, retiring in 2000. He also served his country in the Army. He was a sports enthusiast and an amateur artist.

He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Church and had served as Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus Council # 1639.
Survivors include his wife, Janice, Hartford City; son, Kevin (Suzy) Jackson, Fishers; daughter, Paula (Mark) Orr, Hartford City; four grandchildren, Chad and Marc Orr and Craig and Drew Jackson; three great-grandchildren, Hunter, Dane and Austin Orr; a brother, Bill Jackson, Coldwater, Ohio; a step-brother, Jack (Sally) Smith, Fort Wayne and a step-sister, Vonona Spaulding, Montpelier.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Raymond Jackson.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father Dave Newton at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 6 in St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 209 S. Spring St., Hartford City. Burial will follow in Hartford City Cemetery.

Friends may call at Waters Funeral Home, 501 W. Washington St., Hartford City from 3:00 – 7:00 p.m. Friday, June 5 and from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 6.
A Christian Wake Service will be at 3:00 p.m. Friday in the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the donor’s favorite charity.
