Lloyd D. Miller, 95, of Hartford City passed away at 3:52am Saturday, July 7^th, 2012 with his family at his side.

He was born in Lebanon, MO on June 21^st, 1917 as the son of Lorenzo Dow and Stella Degraffenreid Miller.  He moved to Indiana where he eventually met June A. Willman.  They were married in a double-ringed ceremony on August 1^st, 1948.

Lloyd came to Indiana in 1936 and lived at the Bullskin farm northeast of Hartford City.  He was drafted in 1941, became a corporal in the US Army, and served most of the time as a mail carrier in WWII in the Philippines (Southwest Pacific Theater) .  He was discharged in 1945 to Amarillo, TX and then returned to the Hartford City area.  He started working at Warner Gear and retired in 1980 after 30 years of service.  He had farmed and enjoyed working with animals.  He was involved in the Blackford County 4H for many years.  Also, he was a member of the Zion Lutheran church.

Surviving are his wife, June; one daughter, Judith A. Reynolds (husband Rocchi) of Yorktown, IN and their children: Jason Reynolds (wife Lynna) and Kristy Bodie (husband Steve); three sons, Jerry L. Miller (wife Cathy) of Muncie, IN and their children: Stacey Jackson (husband Andy), Lindsey Masterson (husband George), Tracey Kay Miller, David Masterson (girlfriend Cassey); Robert L. Miller (wife Connie) of Harford City, IN and their children: Ryan Miller, Amy Beyer, Todd Miller (wife Christina); Frederick L. Miller (wife Ann) of Harford City, IN and their children: Andrew Miller (girlfriend Malea), Matthew Miller, and Alex Miller.  There are 13 great-grandchildren: Keegan and Kaiden Reynolds, Gavin Bodie, Emma and Lillian Jackson, Owen Masterson, Forrest, Ashley, and Brock Beyer, Autumn, Ethan, Isaiah, and Carson Miller.

He was preceded in death by five sisters: Gladys Radcliff, Bernice Crow, Fern Holman, Nadine Davis, and Effie Pauline Blakeley; one brother: Floyd L. Miller

Funeral Services will be conducted at 10:30 am Wednesday, July 11, 2012 in Waters Funeral Home, 501 W. Washington St., Hartford City with Pastor David Fleener presiding.  Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory with Military Rites by the Dunkirk American Legion.

Visitation will be on Tuesday, July 10, from 4:00-8:00 pm and one hour prior to services Wednesday at the funeral home.

MARIE M. ERVIN

HARTFORD CITY, INDIANA

Marie M. Ervin, 90, prominent Hartford City resident, passed away Thursday, July 5, 2012 at the Ervin family cottage on Douglas Lake, Cheboygan County, Michigan.

Marie was born August 15, 1921 in Dunkirk to Clem and Rene’ (Lannoy) Barenbrugge. She attended St. Lawrence School, Muncie, and graduated from Dunkirk High School in 1939. She worked as head of payroll at Armstrong Cork, Dunkirk, for 12 years. Her marriage to prominent Hartford City attorney and former prosecutor, William E. Ervin took place in Dunkirk on June 27, 1953 and she resided in Hartford City since then.

Mrs. Ervin was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Altar and Rosary Society of the church, a member and former president of St. John’s Home & School Association, was a charter member and past president of the Blackford County Hospital Auxiliary. She was also a member of Wit and Wisdom Club, Friends of the Library and was treasurer of the Psi Iota Xi/St. John’s “New-to-You” Shop from 1984-2011. Marie took great pride in her home, loved to plant flowers and shrubs and to decorate her home for every holiday.  Each year she donated dictionaries to all the third graders in Blackford County Schools.

Surviving are: daughters, Elaine Ervin, Indianapolis and Diane ( Herman) Kellahan, Livonia, Michigan; a granddaughter, Allison Kellahan; son-in-law, John Blalock, Benecia, CA, a sister, Loretta Bennett, Albany and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a daughter, Annette Blalock, a grandson, Michael Kellahan, brother, Clem Barenbrugge, and twin sisters, Generose Wiggins and Cecilia Gray.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 14 in St. John the Evangelist Church, 209 S. Spring St., Hartford City with Father Dave Newton officiating. Private burial will take place in the Ervin family plot of Hartford City Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 2:00 – 8:00 p.m. Friday, July 13 and from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. Saturday in Waters Funeral Home, 501 W. Washington St., Hartford City.

A Christian Wake service will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday, July 13 at the funeral home.

FORREST E. DUNCAN

HARTFORD CITY, INDIANA

Forrest E. Duncan, 90, passed away at his residence on Wednesday, July 04, 2012.

He was born July 7, 1921 in Akron, Ohio, to Forrest E. and Lillian Duncan, Sr. He graduated from Sharon Center High School in 1939 and received his B.S. and M.A. degrees from Ohio State University in 1949 and 1950.

Mr. Duncan married Faylee Seeger September 14, 1947 in Hamilton, Ohio and they moved to Hartford City in 1954 from Ashland, Ohio.

Forrest was a U. S. Army veteran of WW II serving in the Signal Corps.

Mr. Duncan had served as president of Eastern Indiana Production Credit Association, retiring in 1983 after 30 years of employment. Later he was associated with Citizens Realty, Hartford City.

Forrest was a member and elder of First Presbyterian Church, Elks Lodge #625 and American Legion Post #368, Van Buren.

Surviving are his wife, Faylee; a daughter-in-law, Candace Duncan, Columbus, OH; 2 grandsons, Andrew and Nathaniel (Amber) Duncan, and a great-granddaughter, Kennedy Paige Duncan.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 sons, Lawrence and Craig, and a sister, Bette Clough.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, July 9 in First Presbyterian Church, corner of High and Franklin Streets, Hartford City with Pastor David Smith officiating. A reception will be held in Fellowship Hall immediately following the service. Burial will be made at Gardens of Memory, Muncie with military rites conducted by Delaware County Veterans Organization.

Friends may call at Waters Funeral Home, 501 W. Washington St., Hartford City, from 2-5 p.m. Sunday and after 10 a.m. Monday at the church. Elks Lodge of Sorrow will be at

ORVAL A. TATMAN, JR.

EATON, IN

Orval A. “Shorty” Tatman, Jr., 85, passed away June 30, 2012 in I. U. Health Ball Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Tatman was born January 20, 1927 in Hartford City to Orval A. and Bertha (DeWitt) Tatman, Sr. He was a 1944 graduate of Hartford City High School. He married Lois E. Cheney who died August 12, 1998. He resided in the Hartford City and Eaton areas most of his life and wintered in Punta Gorda, Florida for 25 years, returning to Eaton 3 years ago.

Orval retired from Warner Gear after 30 years of employment and owned and operated

Tudor Inn, Hartford City, for several years.

He served in the Merchant Marines in WW II and was a member of the Elks #625 and Moose Lodges.

Surviving are his companion, Jeweldine Beckley and several cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, a daughter, Jacqueline Kathleen and a sister, Wanda Kathleen Tatman.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 7 in Waters Funeral Home, 501 W. Washington St., Hartford City with Rev. Lloyd Hall officiating. Burial will follow in Hartford City Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 5-7 p.m. Friday with the Elks Lodge of Sorrow at 7 p.m.

A. VIRGINIA VINCENT

MONTPELIER, IN

A. Virginia Vincent, 85, passed away Saturday, June 30, 2012 at Miller’s Merry Manor.

Virginia was born September 16, 1926 in Wabash County to Rilus and Doris (Pyle) Gadbury. On February 6, 1949, she married James R. Vincent, Sr. They resided in Harrison Township over 50 years.

Virginia was a member of Zion Lutheran Church. She was employed as the Blackford High School principal’s secretary for many years and enjoyed reading, gardening, cooking, and, most of all, spending time with her family.

Survivors include a son, James “Rick” Vincent, Jr. (wife, Diana), Hartford City, daughters, Sheryl Meilner (husband, Larry), North Liberty and Susan Lake (fiancé, David Wilson), Eureka, Missouri, seven grandchildren:  Jenny Eppard, Tammy Bennett, Caleb Vincent, Adam Corey Vincent, J.R. Vincent, Ashton Lake and Joey Vincent and 14 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by brothers, Richard Gadbury and Arthur Gadbury, a sister, Faith Price, and a sister-in-law, Marjorie Gadbury, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Virginia was preceded in death by her husband on October 21, 1994; her son, Alan Vincent on December 3, 2010, as well as two brothers, Ralph Eugene Gadbury and Robert Gadbury.

Visitation will be Monday, July 2 from 4 – 8 p.m. at Waters Funeral Home, 501 W. Washington St., Hartford City and Tuesday, 12 noon until services at 1 p.m. Pastor David Fleener will preside over the service, with  burial following in Elizabethtown Cemetery, near Wheeling.

Memorials may be made to the American Stroke Association, with envelopes available at the funeral home.

CLARA E. BILBREY

HARTFORD CITY, INDIANA

Clara E. Bilbrey, 76, passed away Saturday, June 9, 2012 at her residence.

Mrs. Bilbrey was born October 26, 1935 in Muncie, the daughter of Lurton and Elsie (Jones) Boyd. She married Hollis D. Bilbrey in Inglewood, California on November 23, 1959.

Clara was a wonderful mother and grandmother and loved taking care of children.

Survivors include her children: Hollis Bilbrey, Jr. (fiancé, Julie Flatter), Montpelier, Terry (Darlena) Bilbrey, Hartford City, Diana (Gary) Irwin, Kansas City, Missouri, and Jody (Tonya) Bilbrey, Hartford City; two sisters, Lois (Gary) Keller and Marilyn (Ray) Miller; 15 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a son, Charles Bilbrey, a brother Marvin “Pete” Boyd, a sister, Barbara Clanin, and a daughter-in-law, Fran Bilbrey.

Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 13 in Waters Funeral Home, 501 W. Washington St., Hartford City with Pastor Stephen Rogers officiating. Burial will follow in Union Cemetery, Eaton.

JOCELYN ANNE SMITH, O.D.

Indianapolis, Indiana

Dr. Jocelyn Anne Smith, 59, passed away Monday, June 4, 2012 in St. Vincent Seton Specialty Hospital, Indianapolis.

She was born August 22, 1952 in Hartford City, the daughter of Kenneth C. and Wilma (Williams) Smith. She is a graduate Blackford High School and of both the Indiana University School of Nursing and the Indiana University School of Optometry.  She completed extensive training in cornea and external disease diagnosis and management under the direction of William E. Whitson, MD, FACS at Corneal Consultants of Indiana involving excimer lasers, pharmaceuticals, and various surgical procedures.  She has lectured at local, national and international meetings and has assisted in training ophthalmic surgeons in various procedures both in this country and abroad.

Dr. Smith was employed by Whitson Vision, Indianapolis and formerly by Dr. Frank Price of Price Vision, Primesource Healthcare, both of Indianapolis and Dr. Marshall Roch of the Muncie Eye Center. She loved life and traveled extensively.  She was extremely fond of animals and rescued and found homes for many.

Dr. Smith was a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry, a member of the Allied Health Division of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, and Central Indiana Optometric Society.

Surviving are her mother, Wilma, Hartford City, and Hilary, Heather and Wayne Alley, Indianapolis, whom she helped raise. She is also survived by an abundance of very dear friends.

Dr. Smith was preceded in death by her father.

Funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 16, 2012 in Waters Funeral Home, 501 W. Washington St., Hartford City with Rev. Lloyd Hall officiating. Burial will follow in Elizabethtown Cemetery, Delaware County.
