BRIAN JENNERJAHN

Hartford City

Brian Jennerjahn, 75, passed away June 20 at his home surrounded by his family.

He was born October 1, 1940, in Appleton, Wisconsin, the oldest son of Lucille (Fuhrmann) and Merton Jennerjahn.

He graduated with highest distinction and a bachelor’s degree in Industrial Technology from the University of Wisconsin-Stout, Menomonie, Wisconsin in 1964.

Brian moved his family to Hartford City, Indiana, in 1969, to work for 3M. He began his own company, Jennerjahn Machine, Inc. in 1978, drawing up plans for his machines in his living room, renting various spaces in Hartford City to build the machines, eventually buying a building in Matthews, Indiana, where he began producing slitting equipment and then various other machines to meet specific needs. His machines are in 21 countries and every continent except Antarctica. It is estimated that nearly 80% of all cash register rolls used in the United States are produced on Jennerjahn rewinders.

Brian was an avid “gearhead” always working on cars and engines. His early love of drag racing eventually shifted to open wheel cars in the Sports Car Club of America where he raced a Formula Vee for 34 years. He considered his greatest achievements in automobile racing to be his June Sprints and Brundage Cup victories. Both victories were in cars powered by engines Brian built.

Brian was a member of Rotary and met weekly with his beloved “geezer” group of retired men.

He was a cherished husband, father, and grandfather survived by his wife of 51 years, Ruth (Hopfensperger); daughter Jane Peavler and husband, Gary of Brookfield, WI: son Chris Jennerjahn and wife Kristie (Brown) in Hartford City; and daughter Kate Marshall and husband Jeff, Centerville, IN. Grandchildren include Brett, Leah and Kevin Peavler; Adam, Alexandra, Evan, and Sophia Jennerjahn; Helaina, Lewis and Livia Marshall. Also surviving is one brother, Paul and wife Kathy of Appleton, WI.

Visitation will be Friday, June 24 at Waters Funeral Home, Hartford City from 4-7 p.m. On Saturday morning further visitation will be from 9-11 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church with a memorial service at 11 a.m. officiated by Father Dave Newton and Rev. Lloyd Hall.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to a charity of their choice, to Lightrider Ministries in Upland or Blackford Community Foundation to be used for Imagination Library or an Industrial Arts program at Blackford High School.

JUNE H. EDGINGTON

Hartford City

June H. Edgington, 90, a lifelong resident of Blackford County, passed away Tuesday, May 17, 2016 at her residence.

She was born in Blackford County on June 22, 1925 to R. Fernley and Iona (Inman) Barr and married LaRoy Edgington, Jr. on December 3, 1949. He passed away on March 22, 2003.

As a member of Grace United Methodist Church and the Naomi Circle, June had taught the kindergarten class and was a founding member of the Salad-a-Rama committee. She also was a member of Merry Maids Home Demonstration Club in Jackson Township for over 50 years and was a poll worker. June had worked as a telephone operator for Indiana Bell prior to her marriage.

Surviving are: two daughters, Susan Dietz and Pamela Wisecup; one son, Bruce (Jennifer) Edgington; five grandchildren, Kara (Matt) Danskin, Erika (Tim) Dornseif, Brian Dietz (fiancee’ Kara), Madison (Sam) Moore, Megan Fort and four great-grandchildren, Jessica, Madison, Cormack and Kullen.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, sisters, Marie Davis, Betty Hopkins, Kathryn Cunningham, Kathryn’s twin, Kathleen who died as an infant, and June’s twin sister, Jean Dunica.

The funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 24 in Waters Funeral Home, 501 W. Washington St. Hartford City with Rev. Dr. Gary Hall and Rev. John Parks officiating. Burial will follow in Hartford City Cemetery.

Friends may call from 3-8 p.m. Monday, May 23 and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday.

EVELYN G. BURCH

Hartford City

Evelyn G. Burch, 98, passed away March 31, 2016 at her residence.

The last surviving child of ten children, she was born in Winslow, Indiana on January 28, 1918 to Rev. George Gilbert Burch and Mary Lois (Willis) Burch. She graduated from Mount Olympus High School, Mount Olympus, Indiana and received a B.A. in 1941and  a M.A. in 1942 from Indiana University.

Evelyn worked as a translator for the Department of Defense from 1943 to 1970, retiring in 1970. She spoke and translated seven different languages. She also enjoyed reading, genealogy, theology and traveled extensively with Smithsonian tours.

Evelyn was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Hartford City and had been a member of New York Avenue Presbyterian Church, Washington, D.C. for fifty-three years before moving to Hartford City in 2006. She was also a member of Phi Beta Kappa and Pi Sigma Alpha.

Surviving are seventeen nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be 3 p.m. Sunday, April 3, 2016 in Waters Funeral Home, 501 W. Washington St. Hartford City with Pastor Susan Finley presiding.

Friends may call on Sunday from 1 – 3 p.m. in the funeral home.

Burial will be made at 3 p.m. Monday, April 4, 2016 in Sunset Cemetery, Winslow, Indiana.

ROBERT S. BRINKERHOFF, PHD.

Hartford City

Robert S. Brinkerhoff, PhD, passed away Sunday, December 13, 2015 in I. U. Health Ball Memorial Hospital.

Bob was born July 21, 1932 in Teaneck, New Jersey, to James Walter Brinkerhoff, Sr. and Jane (Soley) Brinkerhoff. He graduated from Hasbrouck Heights High School, Hasbrouck Heights, N.J. He was also a graduate of Barrington College, Barrington, Rhode Island, Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, California and received his PhD from the University of Chicago.

Bob married Harriet Gates on June 16, 1956 in Needham, Massachusetts.

Dr. Brinkerhoff was the director of the Christian Counseling Center, Clifton, New Jersey for over 20 years. After retiring he worked part time at the Anderson Psychiatric Clinic, Anderson, Christian Counseling Center of Madison County and Wabash Friends Church Counseling Center, Wabash.

He was a faithful member of the First Presbyterian Church, Hartford City and enjoyed the adult Sunday school class and weekly Bible Study.

He is survived by his wife, Harriet; one son, Stephen Brinkerhoff (wife, Joanne), Hartford City; one daughter, Carol Helmick (husband, Brian), Hartford City; eight grandchildren, Adrian, Lucas, Caleb, Joshua, Jessica and Malachi Brinkerhoff, Michael Keenan and Kristen Javed (husband, K J). One great-grandchild, Kaylie Javed, also survives.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, James Walter Brinkerhoff, Jr., Charles Brinkerhoff and John Brinkerhoff.

A memorial service will be 3 p.m. Saturday, April 2, 2016 in First Presbyterian Church, 117 W. Franklin St., Hartford City with Pastor Susan Finley officiating.

Visitation will be prior to the service from 2-3 p.m. at the church.

MARK H. LOVE

Hartford City

Mark H. Love, 66, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, March 26, 2016 in Muncie.

A life resident of Blackford County, he was born in Hartford City on December 2, 1949 to Hansel and Elsie (Clamme) Love. Mark graduated from Hartford City High School in 1968 and attended Purdue University. He was a member of Alpha Gamma Rho Fraternity at Purdue and was a member of the Purdue Judging team.

Mark worked with Loveland, Inc. which was his family’s farm operation south of Hartford City. He was an avid fisherman, enjoyed hunting and was a devout Purdue supporter.

Mark was a member of Zion Lutheran Church.

Surviving are two sisters, Joan Valente and Ann (Phillip) Gardner, both of Pendleton; aunts and uncles, Louanna Mossburg, Margaret Denton, Louise Clamme and Don (Marsha) Love.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Les.

Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 30, 2016 in Union Cemetery, Eaton with Pastor David Fleener presiding.

Friends may call from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, March 29 in Waters Funeral Home, 501 W. Washington St., Hartford City.

ESTHER N. CORTRIGHT

Hartford City

Esther N. Cortright, 87, passed away Thursday, March 17, 2016 in IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital.

She was born in Dola, Ohio on May 20, 1928 to Rev. Frank and Bertha (Reece) Dell and graduated from Hartford City High School in 1945. She attended Capital University, Columbus, Ohio, for a year and Indiana Business College, Fort Wayne, for 2 years.

Esther married Norman Cortright on December 11, 1954 in Fort Recovery, Ohio. He preceded her in death in 1996.

Esther worked as a secretary at Hartford City High School for many years. She later worked at Blackford County Hospital and Ball Memorial Hospital as a medical transcriptionist.

Survivors include a son, Craig (Donna) Cortright, Bluffton, a daughter, Nancy Cortright, Hartford City, and a brother, Charles Dell, Lima, Ohio.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, brother, John Dell, and sister, Eleanor Hosier.

The funeral service will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 22, 2016 in the Zion Lutheran Church, 308 S. Monroe St., Hartford City with Pastor David Fleener presiding. Burial will follow the service in Greenlawn Cemetery, east of Hartford City.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.

Frederick Lee Ford, 45, passed away March 2, 2016 at his home.

He was born in Marion October 17, 1970 to Frederick Ford and Constance (Merrell) Berry.
