LEO JEFFRIES


Hartford City, Indiana

Leo Jeffries, prominent Hartford City businessman, died at 11:54 p.m. Monday, August 29 in I. U. Blackford Community Hospital Emergency Room.

He was born July 25, 1927 in Dixon, Missouri to William Zebedee and Nellie Jane (McCoy) Jeffries and moved to Hartford City as a youth. Leo served in the U. S. Army during W. W. II and later married Nellie Jean Marker in Selma.

Leo worked at Schorey’s Men’s Wear, then purchased the business and operated it as Leo’s Men’s Wear for 30 years.

He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and started the Cowboy Church seven years ago. He was also a member of the Hartford City Rotary Club for over 50 years.

Surviving are his wife of 63 years, Jean; one son, David (Janel) Jeffries, Indianapolis; one brother, Stan Jeffries, Hartford City; two grandchildren, Matthew Jeffries and Megan Butts; and two great-grandchildren, Kameron and Kaleigh Butts.

He was preceded in death by one son, Randy, one sister, Vertrice Morgan, and four brothers, Warren, Raymond, Lowell and Ralph Jeffries.

Funeral services will be at Trinity U. M. Church, 303 N. Walnut St., Hartford City at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 3 with Pastor Dustin Jones and Rev. John Parks officiating. Burial will follow in Hartford City Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Waters Funeral Home, 501 W. Washington St., from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday and one hour prior to services Saturday at the church.
