Hartford City
Robert W. Renner, 93, passed away Thursday, May 28, 2015 in
Hoosier Village, Indianapolis. He retired as President of Citizens State Bank
(now First Financial Bank) of Hartford City.
He was born June 25, 1921 in Ligonier to Nollon and Ethel
(Blake) Renner and graduated from Ligonier High School in 1940 and served in the
Army Air Corps during WW II.
Bob married Betty Baughman in Ligonier on October 22, 1944
and they resided in South Bend and Muncie before moving to Hartford City.
He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church and
involved in numerous community organizations including Past President of Muncie
Exchange Club, Past President of Rotary, Elks Lodge #625, American Legion Post
#159, Life Member of Amvets #23, Blackford Country Club, F & AM, Past
Chairman of United Way, Past President of Hartford City Chamber of Commerce,
Blackford Historical Society and organized fund drives for the 4-H Building and
the Historical Society.
Mr. Renner was also Past President and Director of Indiana
Bankers Association, Chairman of Community Bankers Association, Founder and
President of Blackford Economic Development Corp., President of League for
Economic Development, President and Director of First State Bank, Dunkirk and
Chairman and Director of First National Bank of Columbus.
Surviving are: three daughters, Rebecca Renner, Hartford
City, Barbara (Norman) Schmidt, Indianapolis, Beverly (Jeffrey) Green, Fishers;
daughter-in-law, Nancy Renner, Montpelier; six grandchildren, Amanda (Shawn)
Lee, Keith (Lisa) Renner, Jennifer (Ken) Hovis, Jason (Abi) Schmidt, Kelsey
Green and Sarah Green; fourteen great-grandchildren and a sister-in-law, Ginny
Renner, Hudson, IN.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty, his son, Robert
Renner, Jr., four brothers, Harold, Gerald, Bill and Richard Renner and two
sisters, Ellen Stutzman and Frances Stutzman.
The funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 2, 2015 in
Waters Funeral Home, 501 W. Washington St., Hartford City. Entombment will
follow in Gardens of Memory Mausoleum, Muncie, with military rites by Delaware
County Veterans Organization.
Friends may call at Waters Funeral Home from 3 – 7 p.m.
Monday, June 1 and one hour prior to the service Tuesday.
