JOHN R. ERVIN

HARTFORD CITY, IN

John R. Ervin, 73, passed away Thursday, January 28, 2010, in Methodist Hospital, Indianapolis.

The son of Guy W. and Marie Josephine (Thiel) Ervin, he was born October 16, 1936 in Marion.

John married Bonnie J. Brammer on October 22, 1955. Her death occurred on November 3, 1997. He married Phyllis Smith Webber on July 10, 1999 in Hartford City. She also preceded him in death.

John was a Staff Sergeant in the Indiana National Guard for over 20 years. He had worked as custodian at the National Guard Armory for several years, retiring in 1998.

He had attended the First Christian Church, was a member of Blackford Lodge #106 F& AM, Scottish Rite, Purity Chapter #126, Order of Eastern Star, Amvets Post #23, Hartford City, Van Buren American Legion, and was a former member of the Gas City Masonic Lodge.

Surviving are: a son, R. Joe (Cindy) Ervin, Hartford City; 3 daughters, Charlene Fischer (Toby Hoskins), Salem, VA, Debbie Townsend (Dan Gibson), Montpelier, and Brenda (Jacob) Freeman, Hartford City; 7 grandchildren, Amy (Troy) Sutton, Jessica (Jarrod) Whitesell, Jeremy Bond, Cody Fischer, Heather, Amanda and Jared Ervin; 3 great-grandchildren, Trace, Trayton, and Treavan Sutton.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a grandson, Joshawa Johnson.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, February 2, 2010 in the Waters Funeral Home, 501 W. Washington St., Hartford City with Pastor Tom Parsons presiding. Burial will follow in Hartford City Cemetery with military graveside rites.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m. Monday, February 1 and one hour prior to services Tuesday.

Masonic Services will be held at 7:30 p.m. Monday in the funeral home.
