Kathryn Hollis Dee

Minnetonka, Minnesota

Kathryn Hollis Dee, 94, former Dunkirk and Hartford City resident, passed away Tuesday, January 11, 2010, at the Methodist Hospital in St. Louis Park, Minnesota. She resided in Minnesota for the last thirty years, the last eleven, living independently, at the Beacon Hill Presbyterian Residence in Minnetonka, Minnesota. She was the widow of Leo Richard Dee who preceded her in death on August 17, 1962. They were proprietors of the Dee's Hardware stores in Dunkirk and Hartford City from 1945 until 1964. She was a former member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Dunkirk, and an employee of Kerr Glass Corp., Dunkirk from 1966 until 1969.

Born March 18, 1915, in Hartford City, she was the daughter of Arthur Clement Hollis and Mabel Gardiner Hollis. She was one of five children: Samuel Hollis, Helen Hollis Tidd, Elizabeth Hollis King, Kathryn Hollis Dee and Aldah Hollis Robbins.

Kathryn loved and was devoted to her family, enjoyed their company and traveled often over the years to be with them. She was an avid golfer and remained an enthusiastic fan. She enjoyed reading, playing cards and throughout her life, was committed to regular exercise.

She leaves two sons, L. Richard Dee and wife, Karen (Coughlin) of Chaska, Minnesota, and Arthur Hollis Dee and wife, Bonnie (Grayson) of Frederick, Maryland. She was the grandmother of Lori Dee Reeburgh and husband, Scott, Kristen Dee Tierney and husband, Cronin, Elizabeth Dee, Meghan Dee Ewin and husband, Joshua; three great grandchildren, Jack and Claire Reeburgh, and Thomas Ewin and many nieces and nephews. She is survived by one sister, Elizabeth Hollis King of Hamilton, Montana.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday, January 18 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 209 S. Spring St., Hartford City with Father Dave Newton as celebrant. Burial will follow in the Hartford City Cemetery.

Friends may call from 2-4 p.m. Sunday, January 17 and 9-10:30 a.m. Monday at Waters Funeral Home, 501 W. Washington St., Hartford City. A Christian Wake Service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
