Marybel Wesner Shook

Fort Lauderdale, Florida

Marybel Wesner Shook, 95, former longtime resident of Hartford City, died Sunday, January 24, 2010, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

She was born December 2, 1914 in Dunkirk, Indiana, the daughter of James and Octavia (Jenkins) Coughlin. Mrs. Shook graduated from Dunkirk High School in 1933 and attended the Ball State School of Nursing in Muncie, Indiana.

She married Carl N. Wesner on July 12, 1940. Mr. Wesner’s death occurred on January 28, 1972. She married Donald E. Shook on August 9, 1976. Mr. Shook’s death occurred on March 22, 1994.

A homemaker, Mrs. Shook was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church, Blackford Country Club, past president and honorary member of Psi Iota Xi Sorority.

Surviving are: two daughters, Jane Lewis, Indianapolis and Sharon Lahti (husband Erik), Fort Lauderdale, Florida; three grandchildren, Michael Lewis (wife Heidi), Kathryn Lewis, and Megan Sams (husband Timothy), all of Indianapolis; three great-grandchildren, Morgan Lewis, Lewis Sams, and Bo Sams, all of Indianapolis; and one sister-in-law, Marie Coughlin, Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Mrs. Shook was preceded in death by her brothers, Fred Coughlin and wife Pat and Ernest Coughlin.

Funeral services will be Saturday, January 30, 2010 at 11:30 a.m. at the Grace United Methodist Church, 312 W. Washington St., Hartford City with Rev. Lloyd Hall officiating. Entombment will follow at Elm Ridge Mausoleum, Muncie.

Friends may call at the Grace United Methodist Church on Saturday from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m.
