CHARLES L. PETHTEL


Hartford City, Indiana

Charles L. Pethtel, 82, passed away October 25, 2012 at his residence.
He was born May 19, 1930 in Millgrove, Indiana, the son of Robert and Ruth (Hendershot) Pethtel. He attended grade school in Millgrove, then graduated from Montpelier High School in 1948.

Charles married Elonda Rinker on March 17, 1951, in Hartford City. She survives. He was drafted into the Army in 1951, served 18 months overseas and was discharged in 1953.
Charles was employed at Overhead Door for 16 years, Bathey for 2 years and retired from Hartford Concrete in 1995 after 25 years of service.

He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church.
Charles is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Elonda; a daughter, Linette (Brian) Trauring, Toledo, OH; a son, Evan Pethtel, Indianapolis; 4 grandchildren, Jeff (Brittany) Trauring, Elizabeth (friend, Mike) and Megan Trauring, and Dru Alex Pethtel; 2 great-granddaughters, Laura Ruth and Noelle Elizabeth Trauring;  a sister, Lois (George) Dye, The Village, FL. He is also survived by his in-laws and good friends who shared 50 + years of good times together, Gwen & Betty Rinker, Jim & Betty Rinker, Sue Rinker and Merrill & RedaBelle (Rinker) Nottingham.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother & sister-in-law, Jack and Gracie Ann Pethtel, a special aunt, Mazie Current and brother-in-law, Clifford Rinker.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday, October 29 in Zion Lutheran Church, 308 S. Monroe St., Hartford City with Pastor David Fleener officiating. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory with military rites by Delaware County Veterans Organization.                

Friends may call at Waters Funeral Home, 501 W. Washington St., Hartford City, from 1-5 p.m. Sunday and from 9-9:30 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Zion Lutheran Church or Ball Memorial Hospice.
