HARTFORD CITY, INDIANA
Leo A. Nottingham, 97, passed away Saturday, September 29, 2012
at Miller’s Merry Manor.
A life resident of Grant and Blackford Counties, he was born
in Matthews on October 11, 1914 to Ray and Mary Pauline (Lambert) Nottingham
and graduated from Matthews High School in 1933. On December 14, 1935 he
married Esther Mittank. She preceded him in death on June 18, 1986.
Leo served in the Navy during W.W. II aboard Light Carrier
CVL-28, U.S.S Cabot. After his
discharge, he was a self-employed carpenter and construction worker and had
also farmed.
Mr. Nottingham was a member of the Hartford City School
Board for several years and was president of the school board when Blackford
County Schools were consolidated. He was also a member of Indiana Farm Bureau
and Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church.
Survivors include two sons, Dale (Gayle) Nottingham,
Hartford City and Don (Margery) Nottingham, Fort Wayne, a daughter, Anita
(Alan) Shupe, Fort Wayne; eight grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, two
step-grandchildren, three step-great-grandchildren and three
step-great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and a
brother, John.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, October 3, 2012
in Waters Funeral Home, 501 W. Washington St., Hartford City with Pastor Dan
Coffman officiating. Burial will follow in Matthews Cemetery.
Friends may call at Waters Funeral Home from 2-4 and 6-8 Tuesday
and after 9 a.m. Wednesday.
The family requests memorials be made to the Pleasant Grove
United Methodist Church.
