HARTFORD CITY, IN
Ellen D. Dornberger Turney, 87, died peacefully Wednesday,
October 17, 2012 at 8:50 p.m. after a lengthy illness. Born February 19, 1925
in Washington, Pennsylvania, Ellen moved to Hartford City in 1962 to work for
the 3M Company, from which she retired
in 1990 after more than 25 years of service.
Ellen was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic
Church, where she was involved in the Altar and Rosary Society and the
church-affiliated “New to You” second-hand shop. Ellen was a Charter Member of
the Blackford Community Hospital Volunteer Association (Ladies in Pink) and a
lifetime member of the American Legion Auxiliary, 3M Retirees and 3M Club.
Ellen was a wonderful cook, loved trying out new recipes,
and had a cookbook collection any library would be proud of. She loved going
places in her car and would often have friends ride along to help her navigate
when she got lost.
Ellen always found time for others and would go out of her
way to cheer someone up. Her laugh was infectious, and her smile and beautiful
blue eyes made her stand out from all others. She was truly a joy to be around
and will be deeply missed.
Surviving are: her daughter, Rebecca Turney Sherer (Jim), Newburgh, IN; her brother,
Joseph J. Dornberger, Jr., Sarasota FL; her grandson, James, Jr., whom she
fondly called her “Peaches and Cream:, Newburgh, IN; her nephew, whom she
dearly loved and who held a very special place in her heart, Leonard J.
Dornberger, Jr. (Maria), Dover, DE; her nieces, Andrea Dornberger Williams (goddaughter)
and Michele Dornberger, Dover, DE; sister-in-law, Felicia Dornberger, Dunkirk;
and Ellen’s godson, A.J. Dornberger (Phyllis), Muncie.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph J.
Dornberger, Sr. and Clara A. Dornberger; her son, Timothy E. Turney; and her
brother, Leonard J. Dornberger, Sr.
The family would like to thank Miller’s Merry Manor,
Hartford City, and staff for the loving care that was given to Ellen. In
addition, a special thank you to Family Hospice and Palliative Care of Berne,
Indiana. These “Angels on Earth” have been with Ellen for almost 2 years and
she loved each and every one of them. Also, thank you to Dr. Helen Borgenheimer
and her staff. Last but certainly not least, the family wants to thank Diana
Ring. Diana became a part of our family a few years ago and has always been
there for each and every one of us. Diana was another of God’s true “Angels on
Earth”. Her compassion, love, spirituality and wonderful sense of humor are
surpassed by no one.
