Dr. Jocelyn Anne Smith, 59, passed away Monday, June 4, 2012 in St.
Vincent Seton Specialty
Hospital , Indianapolis .
She was born August
22, 1952 in Hartford City ,
the daughter of Kenneth C. and Wilma (Williams) Smith. She is a graduate Blackford
High School and of both the Indiana
University School of Nursing and the Indiana University School of Optometry. She completed extensive training in cornea
and external disease diagnosis and management under the direction of William E.
Whitson, MD, FACS at Corneal Consultants of Indiana involving excimer lasers,
pharmaceuticals, and various surgical procedures. She has lectured at local, national and
international meetings and has assisted in training ophthalmic surgeons in
various procedures both in this country and abroad.
Dr. Smith was employed by Whitson Vision, Indianapolis and formerly by Dr. Frank Price of Price
Vision, Primesource Healthcare, both of Indianapolis and Dr. Marshall Roch of the Muncie Eye Center . She loved life and traveled extensively. She was extremely fond of animals and rescued
and found homes for many.
Dr. Smith was a Fellow of the American
Academy of Optometry, a member of
the Allied Health Division of the American
Academy of Ophthalmology, and
Central Indiana Optometric Society.
Surviving are her mother, Wilma, Hartford
City , and Hilary, Heather and Wayne
Alley, Indianapolis , whom she
helped raise. She is also survived by an abundance of very dear friends.
Dr. Smith was preceded in death by her father.
Funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday,
June 16, 2012 in Waters Funeral Home, 501 W.
Washington St. , Hartford City
with Rev. Lloyd Hall officiating. Burial will follow in Elizabethtown
Cemetery , Delaware County.
Friends may call at Waters Funeral Home from 1 – 8 p.m. Friday, June 15 and after 10 a.m. Saturday.
