MARIE M. ERVIN
HARTFORD CITY, INDIANA
Marie M. Ervin, 90, prominent Hartford City resident, passed
away Thursday, July 5, 2012 at the Ervin family cottage on Douglas Lake,
Cheboygan County, Michigan.
Marie was born August 15, 1921 in Dunkirk to Clem and Rene’
(Lannoy) Barenbrugge. She attended St. Lawrence School, Muncie, and graduated
from Dunkirk High School in 1939. She worked as head of payroll at Armstrong
Cork, Dunkirk, for 12 years. Her marriage to prominent Hartford City attorney
and former prosecutor, William E. Ervin took place in Dunkirk on June 27, 1953
and she resided in Hartford City since then.
Mrs. Ervin was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic
Church, Altar and Rosary Society of the church, a member and former president
of St. John’s Home & School Association, was a charter member and past
president of the Blackford County Hospital Auxiliary. She was also a member of
Wit and Wisdom Club, Friends of the Library and was treasurer of the Psi Iota
Xi/St. John’s “New-to-You” Shop from 1984-2011. Marie took great pride in her
home, loved to plant flowers and shrubs and to decorate her home for every
holiday. Each year she donated
dictionaries to all the third graders in Blackford County Schools.
Surviving are: daughters, Elaine Ervin, Indianapolis and
Diane ( Herman) Kellahan, Livonia, Michigan; a granddaughter, Allison Kellahan;
son-in-law, John Blalock, Benecia, CA, a sister, Loretta Bennett, Albany and
several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a
daughter, Annette Blalock, a grandson, Michael Kellahan, brother, Clem
Barenbrugge, and twin sisters, Generose Wiggins and Cecilia Gray.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday,
July 14 in St. John the Evangelist Church, 209 S. Spring St., Hartford City
with Father Dave Newton officiating. Private burial will take place in the
Ervin family plot of Hartford City Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 2:00 – 8:00 p.m.
Friday, July 13 and from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. Saturday in Waters Funeral Home, 501
W. Washington St., Hartford City.
A Christian Wake service will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday, July
13 at the funeral home.
